Fairtrade @ St. John's
WHAT IS FAIRTRADE?
Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. By using and offering for sale products with the FAIRTRADE Mark we can be sure that they have been independently certified to ensure producers have been paid a fair and stable price for their products, as well as a social premium to invest in developing their businesses and improving their communities with such as access to clean water, health care, and education.
WHY DOES IT MATTER TO US AS A CHURCH ?
Our Fairtrade Parish’s involvement in Fairtrade is an expression of how we follow our faith, as we make intentional choices about how we make our purchases. By being a Fairtrade Parish we are playing our part in enabling farmers and workers to bring about change today in their own lives and communities, as well as sending out a signal for justice in wider international trade.
What does the Lord require of us: to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God’ Micah 6:8
HOW IS ST. JOHN’S A FAIRTRADE CHURCH?
Refreshments provided at St. John’s 10am Sunday Service, Coffee Morning and other activities are Fairtrade and we also use Fairtrade communion wine. We also hold events at church which support Fairtrade, and have a Fairtrade stall available at times.
